Today, we made snow! Sadly, 1DGS2 did not want to touch it until 4DD21 got involved. He still didn't touch much but he *did* touch!
First, I used this recipe from Two Sisters Crafting - minus the glitter :) If I could have I would have experimented with a tad bit more shaving cream. So, in the future I will probably use less cornstarch to start and work it until I find that consistency I really like.
1DGS2 does not like getting messy - at all. He touched the cornstarch when I asked him to but he did not like it much and wiped it off lol
Next, the shaving cream scared him! Not really bad - he just did not like the sound the can makes :(
Forget helping mix it! But that was okay, as I knew it was going to be messy!
Once it was mixed he still wouldn't touch it. So I made a snowman out of it and his Auntie finally got him to smash the snowman!! Over, and over, and over, and over lol
Next, I took the snow out of the bowl and had it covering the table. I tamped it down some so it would show footprints ... dino footprints, that is! Now he loved that! He liked seeing the different tracks each one made and would actually move them around making prints. It was cute :) When one of them face planted in the snow and got some on its front paws he had to make them all cover their mouths and paws! We pretended they were having a snowball fight like the big boys in the book.
After he was all finished playing with the snow, I bagged it up in a gallon Baggie and put it in the freezer. I'm going to experiment with this a bit and find out how long it stays good for and if it is shippable ;-)
Overall, I will call this a success!

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats - Day 1
Today was the first day of BFIAR for 1DGS2! I decided to go ahead and do the snow book even though it's spring already. It is one of the easier books, IMO, for the youngest ones. Snow is pretty fresh in 1DGS2's mind so it all just made sense.
For today, we read the book, obviously, and while I was reading he kept pointing out the snow and various things I read about. So, I decided to start asking for him to point out various things - and he did :) Afterwards, we watched a YouTube video of someone signing the book in ASL. Since I have been teaching him ASL, it was perfect! I couldn't believe that he sat watching in rapt attention the way he did!
We were going to do more today but I wound up with a sick JROTC teen on my hands. But, I'm happy with just getting started the way we did. I was simply thrilled that 1DSG2 enjoyed it as much as he did :)

Rowing for Grandbabies
My first grandbaby is finally 2! Do you know what this means?? It means it's time to start BFIAR or Before Five In A Row! While we've been doing learning, we haven't been doing anything structured at all. Granted, BFIAR isn't exactly structured, it is a bit more so than anything I do prior to 2 years old. It's structured in that we read the same book throughout the week and do fun activities and crafts based on the book. Other than that, it's pretty much still fun and games with more play than anything else. But, his parents want structured learning so this satisfies both of us. I have loved the entire FIAR program for near on 20 years. The kids always thought it was fun and we really enjoyed doing activities relating to the books we read.
Now it's time pass along the fun to the next generation :-D
I keep 1DGS2 2-4 days a week based on his mom's work schedule at the hospital. So those are the days we will row.
